Chapter 7 - THE JANITOR'S REVENGE

The chaotic roar of shouting guards and screeching tires echoed across the concrete docks as Luca’s tactical team flooded the warehouse.
Viktor Vance cursed under his breath, raising his pistol toward the front entrance, but before he could squeeze the trigger, a heavy metal wrench thrown with pinpoint precision struck his wrist. The gun flew from his hand, clattering uselessly across the concrete floor.
Viktor spun around to grab Chloe again as a hostage, but Arthur Carter—the quiet, unassuming custodian who had spent six years hiding from the Harrington empire—moved with terrifying speed.
Arthur lunged forward, tackling Viktor around the waist and driving the enforcer hard into a stack of wooden pallets. The old man’s knuckles cracked against Viktor's jaw with a sickening thud, sending the fixer crashing to the floor, unconscious before he even hit the ground.
The remaining guards dropped their weapons, raising their hands as red-dot laser sights from a dozen tactical rifles locked onto their chests.
"Secure the perimeter!" Matteo shouted over the chaos. "Nobody leaves this pier!"
Emma pulled Chloe into her arms, holding her tightly as her sister sobbed into her shoulder. "You're okay, Chlo. You're safe. I've got you."
Luca strode down the center aisle of the warehouse, his boots crunching on broken glass and gravel. He didn't look at the captured men. His dark eyes were fixed entirely on Emma and Chloe.
He stopped a few feet away, his chest heaving slightly from the adrenaline rush. He looked at Emma, taking in the dirt, the cold, and the sheer courage shining in her eyes.
"Are you hurt?" Luca asked, his voice softening as he looked down at her.
"I'm fine," Emma said breathlessly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Just... get my sister out of here."
Luca nodded once. He motioned to two of his guards. "Take the young lady to the medical vehicle. Make sure she has a warm blanket and a doctor checks her over."
As Chloe was gently led away toward the heated SUVs outside, Arthur walked up beside Luca, wiping a smear of grease from his weathered forehead. He looked at Emma with a warm, paternal smile.
"You have a lot of courage, young lady," Arthur said softly. "Reminds me of my son, Ethan. Always standing up for what's right, even when the world tells you to keep your head down."
Emma blinked in surprise, looking from Arthur to Luca. "You... you know Mr. Carter?"
Luca offered a faint, tired smile. "Arthur isn't just a custodian, Emma. Six years ago, before Richard Harrington destroyed his life to cover up a drunk driving accident, Arthur was one of the finest security engineers in the state. When I found out tonight that Harrington was moving against my family using the exact same playbook, I called the only man in Illinois who knew how to crack Harrington's corporate shell."
Emma's eyes widened. "You brought him here?"
"My son, Ethan, and I finished the fight against Harrington up in Westbrook this morning," Arthur explained quietly, holding up a sleek digital tablet. "And tonight, I downloaded every single offshore banking record connecting Richard Harrington to Vanessa Bellini's accounts and her conspiracy to traffic little Daniel."
Luca took the tablet from Arthur's hands, tapping the screen to review the glowing financial data. A cold, satisfied smile touched the corners of his mouth.
"Richard thought he was untouchable," Luca murmured, turning his gaze toward the dark horizon where Lake Michigan met the night sky. "He thought he could buy my nephew, destroy my family, and walk away clean."
Luca looked back at Emma, his expression turning solemn and deeply grateful. "And you, Emma... you walked right into the lion's den to save your sister, without a second thought for your own safety. You saved my family tonight."
Before Emma could reply, the heavy iron doors at the back of the warehouse burst open again.
Matteo hurried inside, looking urgent. "Boss! We intercepted a transmission from Richard Harrington's private airfield. His private jet is taxiing on the runway right now. He's trying to flee the country."
Luca closed his eyes for a single heartbeat, listening to the distant wail of sirens closing in from the highway.

Then he opened them, his eyes burning with absolute finality.
"Not tonight he isn't," Luca said, turning toward the exit. "Let's go finish this."
