Chapter 7 - THE SISTER'S REVENGE

The panic room was buried deep beneath the mansion, protected by three feet of reinforced steel.
As Dominic descended the hidden staircase, the pieces of the nightmare finally locked into place. Clara had blamed Dominic for Elena’s death. She vanished three years ago, vowing to burn his world to ashes. She had hired the shadow man. She had bought off his guards. She had orchestrated the poison, knowing Dominic would tear his own family apart looking for a traitor.
Dominic punched the code into the panic room door.
The heavy steel hissed open.
"Sophia, it's me," Dominic called out, stepping into the dimly lit bunker.
Silence.
"Sophia?"
Dominic turned the corner and froze.
Sophia was lying on the floor, bleeding from a deep gash on her forehead. She was unconscious.
Ethan and Lily were gone.
Standing in the center of the room, holding Elena’s ruby necklace in her hand, was a woman with cold, dead eyes.
Clara.
She held a heavy steel lighter in her other hand. The room reeked of gasoline. She had bypassed the security grid completely.
"Hello, Dominic," Clara smiled, her voice like broken glass. "You look surprised."
"Where is my son?" Dominic demanded, raising his weapon.
"He's safe. For now," Clara said, flicking the lighter open. A small flame danced in the darkness. "He's locked in the library with the little girl. But this room? This room is wired to ignite. If you shoot me, I drop the lighter."
"You want me, Clara. Leave the kids out of this."
"You took my sister!" Clara screamed, her composure shattering. "Your enemies killed her because of your business! You promised to protect her!"
"I loved her!" Dominic shouted back. "I would have died for her!"
"Then you'll die for her son," Clara sneered. "Drop the gun, Dominic. Drop it, and I'll tell you the code to unlock the library doors before the timer goes off."
Dominic stared at the flame. He looked at Sophia, bleeding on the floor.
He had to make a choice. His pride, or his son's life.
Dominic slowly lowered his weapon and dropped it onto the concrete floor.

"Good," Clara smiled.
She turned and threw the lighter directly into the puddle of gasoline.
