Chapter 8 - The Collapse of the Syndicate

The silence that fell over Pier 44 was heavy enough to crush bone. Dozens of Falcone soldiers slowly lowered their weapons, their eyes darting nervously between Marcus and the aging Arthur Vance. In the underworld, loyalty was bought with money and maintained through fear, but treason against the founding bloodlines was an unforgivable sin.
Marcus’s face twisted into an ugly mask of pure panic and rage. He abandoned the decoy chair, raising his 9mm pistol and pointing it directly at Arthur’s chest.
"Shut up! Shut up, you old bastard!" Marcus screamed, his voice cracking with hysteria. "Kill him! Kill all of them right now!"
Not a single Falcone soldier moved.
Instead, the closest capos took two slow steps backward, putting distance between themselves and the unhinged heir.
"You heard the boy," I said coldly, my hand resting casually near my shoulder holster. "He's ordering your execution. Because the moment Arthur finishes reading the federal indictments against the Falcone family—indictments that prove your father was a government informant for twenty years—there won't be a single safehouse left on the East Coast for any of you."
Marcus’s arm trembled violently. He looked around the warehouse, realizing in a blinding flash of terror that his army had evaporated in less than ten seconds. The men who had sworn allegiance to his family name now saw him for what he truly was: a desperate boy playing a dangerous game he had already lost.
"Traitors," Marcus whispered, lowering his gun an inch. "All of you are fucking traitors."
"No, Marcus," Richard Blake said, stepping forward from the shadow of my Maybach, holding his cigar between two fingers. "We're just businessmen. And right now, your stock is completely worthless."
Before Marcus could raise his weapon again, two of my tactical operatives moved with lightning speed. A swift strike to his wrist sent the 9mm pistol clattering onto the concrete, followed immediately by a tactical takedown that slammed Marcus face-first into the cold floor. A pair of heavy steel zip-ties clicked tightly around his wrists.
Arthur Vance walked slowly across the warehouse floor, stopping just inches from where Marcus lay groaning against the dirt. The older man looked down at the fallen heir with quiet, profound pity.
"Your father built this empire on lies, Marcus," Arthur said softly. "And an empire built on lies always collapses the moment someone tells the truth."
I walked past them, stopping to place a reassuring hand on Arthur’s shoulder. "Welcome home, Arthur. Clara is waiting for you at the penthouse."
Arthur’s eyes filled with sudden, bright tears. He looked up at me, his weathered face breaking into a fragile, grateful smile. "Is she... is my granddaughter safe?"
"She's safer than she's ever been," I replied. "And she just unlocked a door I thought would stay closed forever."

I turned back to Richard. "Secure the docks. Hand Marcus and his remaining loyalists over to the federal task force with the unredacted files attached. Let the DOJ handle the legal cleanup. We're going home."
Richard nodded, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Consider it done, boss. Welcome back to the throne."
