Chapter 9 - THE NEW DAWN OF MORETTI MANSION~1,100 words

The morning sun rose over the Moretti estate, bathing the grand marble mansion in a warm, golden light that washed away the shadows of the terrifying night before.
Inside the main dining room, the crystal chandeliers sparkled once again, illuminating a very different kind of gathering.
The room was quiet, peaceful, and filled with the rich aroma of fresh coffee and authentic Mexican sweet bread.
Don Salvatore Moretti sat at the head of the long mahogany table. Though he still looked frail after his heart attack months earlier, his posture was straight, his eyes bright with a renewed, fierce vitality.
Seated to his right was Luna.
She wore a soft, elegant cream-colored dress—simple, refined, and entirely her own—with the platinum and emerald ring catching the morning light on her left hand.
Across the table sat her mother and her youngest brother, Mateo, who had flown in from Mexico late last night on a private Moretti jet arranged personally by Don Salvatore. Her mother was holding a cup of espresso, shaking her head in joyful disbelief as she looked around the opulent dining room.
At the foot of the table sat Luca, his shoulder bandaged beneath a clean white shirt, watching Luna with a quiet, continuous smile.
“Well,” Don Salvatore said, clearing his throat and tapping his spoon gently against his coffee cup. “I must admit, when my son announced he was choosing a kitchen maid over the daughters of our allied families, I thought he had finally lost his mind.”
The table fell silent, every eye turning toward the old don.
Don Salvatore paused, a faint, genuine smile curving his lips as he looked directly at Luna.
“I was wrong,” the don continued, his voice ringing clearly across the room. “Traditional alliances built on greed and fear crumble the moment a storm hits. But a foundation built on loyalty, hard work, and genuine heart... that is the only kind of foundation that lasts for generations.”
He raised his espresso cup.
“To our new daughter, Luna Moretti. The true heart of this family.”
“Salud!” everyone at the table echoed warmly.
Luna felt a rush of profound emotion warm her chest. She looked around the table at her mother’s tearful, proud smile, her brother’s wide-eyed wonder, and Luca’s unwavering gaze.
The dark world of the mafia had not vanished completely—threats still existed, syndicates would still test their borders, and the shadows of the underworld would always loom at the edges.
But the Moretti family had changed.
The era of cold corporate marriages and ruthless tactical dominance had given way to something real, something unbreakable.
Later that afternoon, after her family had settled into the newly renovated East Wing guest suites, Luna walked out onto the grand stone terrace overlooking the sprawling estate gardens.
The white roses and baby’s breath from the night of the gala had been cleared away, replaced by the warm, earthy scent of blooming jasmine and autumn leaves.
Footsteps approached softly behind her.
Strong arms wrapped around her waist, and Luca rested his chin gently on her shoulder, pulling her back against his chest.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Moretti,” he whispered against her ear.
Luna smiled, looking out toward the horizon where the Hudson River glittered beneath the afternoon sun.
“I was just thinking about three years ago,” she said softly, turning her head to look up at him. “When you walked past me while I was scrubbing the floors and told me I missed a spot.”
Luca chuckled, pressing a warm kiss to her forehead.

“Best mistake I ever made,” he murmured.
Luna placed her hand over his, the emerald ring catching the sunlight, and for the first time since she had crossed the border three years ago with little more than a prayer and her grandmother’s rosary, she knew she was finally, truly, home.
