Chapter 8 - THE LEGACY RESTORED

The press conference was held in the grand atrium of the Blackwood Tower. Flashbulbs popped like lightning as Ethan stepped up to the podium. He didn't wear a tie. He stood tall, projecting a calm, grounded authority that the board had never seen from him before. "Ladies and gentlemen," Ethan began, his voice echoing through the massive glass hall. "For years, the Blackwood Trust has operated under a cloud of tragedy. Today, that cloud lifts." He turned toward the side stage. Amelia walked out. She wore a stunning emerald suit, her head held high, radiating strength. The press corps erupted. Gasps and shouts echoed as reporters recognized the woman they had written obituaries for seven years ago. Amelia stepped up to the microphone beside Ethan. "I am alive," she said simply, silencing the room. "And I have returned to take my rightful place as co-chair of this foundation." She didn't mention Victor. She didn't mention the trauma. She only spoke of the future. She announced a billion-dollar initiative to fund independent medical oversight, ensuring no private clinic could ever operate in the shadows again. Then, Ethan took the mic one last time. "There is one more introduction," Ethan said, a proud smile breaking across his face. From the wings, Marcus walked out, holding Lily's hand. She was a little shy, but as soon as she saw her parents, she ran across the stage. Ethan picked her up, settling her on his hip. "This is Lily Blackwood," Ethan told the world. "The sole heir to our family, and the light of our lives." The cameras flashed, capturing the image of the reunited family. It was the front-page photo on every newspaper in the country the next morning. But for Ethan, the only picture that mattered was the one being taken that evening back at the estate. They were in the newly decorated nursery. It was painted in soft pastels, filled with books, toys, and a large, comfortable bed. Lily was tucked under the covers, her eyes heavy with sleep. Amelia sat on the edge of the bed, reading a story, her voice soft and melodic. Ethan stood in the doorway, watching them. He thought about the digitalis tea. He thought about the dark room. He thought about the miracle that had brought them all back together. Lily yawned, her eyelids fluttering shut. "Goodnight, Mommy," she mumbled. "Goodnight, my sweet girl," Amelia whispered, kissing her cheek. Lily opened one eye and looked at the doorway. "Goodnight, Daddy." Ethan walked over, his heart full, and kissed her forehead. "Goodnight, Lily. Sweet dreams." He turned off the lamp, leaving only the soft glow of a star-shaped nightlight. As he and Amelia walked out into the hallway, Ethan closed the door quietly behind them. He took Amelia's hand, lacing his fingers through hers. They walked down the grand staircase together, ready to face whatever tomorrow brought. They had survived the fire. They had weathered the storm. And now, they were finally, truly, in the light.
